It’s hard to define an answer for sunscreen usage without recognizing that there are different skin types. Depending on your skin, you need to adjust the products you use on your face.
You should consult with your esthetician for skin analysis and depending on that, choose the right products for your needs.
For example, if you have dehydrated skin, you need to use moisturizer before applying your sunscreen. Or if you have dry skin you need to apply an oil-based serum before wearing your sunscreen because the oil-based products (of course depending on what kind of oil it is) can prime your skin and make it smooth and ready for absorbing the sunscreen. If you do not use this as a primer, the sunscreen will be looked cakey on your skin…nobody likes that
With oily skin, if you use more oil-based products, you will develop acne on your face. Or if your skin is hydrated enough already and you use more moisturizer, the sunscreen will not penetrate your skin because there is too much product already.
There are many different factors in applying sunscreen and your daily routine.
I personally recommend at least two different types of sunscreens to my client; one for spring and summer and another for Autumn and winter. The skin has different needs at different times of the year. The sunlight and temperature are different too.
For example, in the summer I recommend hydrating sunscreen for even normal hydrated skin because the high temperature (in California) in the summer makes the skin more dehydrated. And in the winter, I recommend more oil-based products because the skin tends to get drier.
So there is no rule of thumb for saying that you can only use one type of sunscreen forever and you will be fine. Like in life and in everything else, it just depends!
