Q: When can I exfoliate in my skin care routine?

When to exfoliate in your skin care routine really depends on your skin type.

I say this because doing extra exfoliation makes the skin react reversely. By exfoliating too much, we take layers off the skin and the skin’s reaction would be making more skin to fight back against the “trauma.”

So it’s important to know that different skin types react well to certain treatments and lengths between exfoliations. And when you go away from this process, it can lead to bad results.

If you have an oily skin, I would recommend exfoliation once a week with clinical exfoliation products and not over-the-counter products.

If you have a dehydrated or dry skin, I would recommend exfoliation once a month.

So again it depends on your skin type, how dry or oily or aged your skin is.

So make sure to visit an esthetician or a dermatologist and have them help you determine your skin type and then a proper course of treatment, as well as the products that you may use in your skin care routine.

By doing this, you can figure out when and how is the best way in figuring how to add exfoliation into your skincare routine.
