Here are four makeup and skincare questions that I received and answered today on August 13th, 2021.
Please feel free to send in any more questions that you may have regarding makeup and/or skincare to modernskintherapy@gmail.com!
Q1: Can I apply foundation after waxing?
When you wax your face your skin pores get open.
Therefore, everything you apply to your skin will go inside the pores.
That might cause skin irritation and redness if you have dry/sensitive skin or it might cause acne if you have oily skin.
So, you should avoid applying foundation on your skin since the oil will go into your skin and the emollient in the foundation will clog your pores.
Q2: My skin replicates way too quickly on my face, chest, and back. If I go 2 days without scrubbing then rub my chest with my fingers, a bunch of dead skin comes off. How do I control this?
Too much scrubbing and exfoliating of the skin causes the skin to fight back by building more extra skin.
So just stop scrubbing and let your skin be. If you keep scrubbing, instead of calming it down, it will irritate it more and it angrier.
After a couple of months, you will see the difference.
Your skin will eventually calm down and won’t make extra skin to compensate.
Be patient. It will take time, but it will eventually stop.
Q3: How do you cover acne scars with concealer?
The type of concealer will depend on what kind of scar that you have, as well as how red or dark it is.
Your skin tone will also have an impact on the concealer you choose.
Basically, you should choose a green concealer if the scar is red; likewise, pick a yellow concealer if the scar is dark. Make sure to only cover the scar area with the concealer.
The second step is using a foundation that matches your skin tone. Be careful about putting these products only on the scar. If you don’t, you will not only not be covering the scar, but you will also have different colors all over your skin. Not to mention that your scar will still show up.
The last step would be covering the scar area with powder that matches your skin tone to set the foundation in place. I would also use a setting spray on top just to be safe.
Q4: I have dehydrated skin oily skin, and I am planning to buy the SA renewing cleanser by Cerave. Will this product dry me out more, or would it help my skin?
The renewing cleanser is not a proper cleanser for your skin because it has salicylic in it.
You need to use a foamy moisturizing cleanser, which is oil-free or water-based to hydrate your skin. This is not used for “renewing” your skin.
Regarding the fact that you have oily skin, this is not bad in and of itself, because it ages later than dry skin.
So don’t try to make your skin dry.
But, if you have acne skin because your skin is oily, then you need to use anti-acne products only on the acne parts of your skin, not everywhere.
Usually, I use hydrating masques on sections that are dehydrated and salicylic masques on the acne sections of my client’s skin.
The best thing to do is seeing an esthetician to choose the right products for your skin type.
Thank you all for the wonderful questions! I hope to receive more comments in the future!
